Portfolio Courses 2023-2024
With an already established reputation places fill quickly.
These are 1-year (30 week) courses designed to give you a sustained and intensive period of study in a specialist area. They are are an excellent opportunity to build a portfolio of work, to develop confidence and ideas in your own practice, and to learn new skills. This may be because you want to further your study, to apply for other courses, or simply because you are intrigued about the process and want to learn more. These are great courses for those who are undecided about going to college or university and give you time and space to develop your ideas. All courses are suitable for beginners. We are looking for students who are enthusiastic and motivated to learn.
Students study in small groups alongside highly experienced tutors. Work is undertaken largely in our spacious studios with professional equipment with some supported study at home.
There is an induction session before the course for all 1 Year Portfolio Students which you are required to attend and there will be a group exhibition at the end of the course.
Attendance
Students attend in person for 4 weeks and then 1 week at home. This is repeated for each half term throughout the course. In total this means that 3 sessions are undertaken at home with online support and 3 end of term sessions are more fluid allowing for group activities or workshops. We see this as an intrinsic and invaluable part of the course. It gives you time to plan, to prepare plates, blocks and stencils, to research and consolidate ideas, and in some cases undertake additional project work.
All materials are provided for sessions and portable equipment may be borrowed as needed. You will need a small area set aside to work at home.
Online
Participants on our portfolio courses access additional support materials on our online learning portal MOODLE. This includes course documents, technical information, useful links and clear instructions for the sessions working at home. You will be encouraged to log in weekly to access this material.
Workshops
You will also be able to attend specialist activities such as drawing, monoprint or bookbinding. These may be offsite or online. This will give you a chance to expand your skills and meet students from the other 1 year courses. The workshops are designed to complement all of the 1 year courses.
Reduced membership
Portfolio Students are able to have a significantly discounted membership rate for the year subject to tutor approval.
Students are given opportunities to discuss their ideas and aspirations with tutors regularly throughout the year and receive a certificate of course completion together with a single reference from the tutor, if required.
Talk to us if you would like to pay in instalments.
